HORSEBACK THROUGH THE BEAUTIFUL DAVIS MOUNTAINS

$55 /Hour

Prude Ranch is pleased to offer year-round horseback rides through the beautiful Davis Mountains. You will be able to experience the beauty of West Texas by the best means possible, on the back of a horse. Our trails wind through the mountains; cross over trickling streams, and will take you to breath-taking views. Our horses are safe and well trained and very experienced in negotiating the trails. We provide all the equipment you’ll need to have an enjoyable and exciting experience.

Never ridden a horse? That’s okay! Our horses take excellent care of their riders and we look forward to giving you a great first experience. For safety reasons, we kindly ask for our riders to be older than 6 years, weigh no more than 220 pounds, and to please come dressed in jeans/pants and closed toe shoes. Our requirements are for the safety of both horse and rider. Our trails are suitable for all levels of riders, but we often encounter brush, cactus, and other elements.

Trail rides are available all year long, except during summer camp and certain events. All trail rides require an advanced reservation.

BUCKAROO RIDES

Prude Ranch wants to give everyone a chance to ride, even our younger cowboys and cowgirls. For aspiring riders younger than 5 years old, we offer buckaroos rides. Experienced wranglers choose a suitable horse and then lead your little one around. For safety reasons, we maintain control of the horse, but your little “buckaroo” gets to be a cowboy or cowgirl for a few laps around our corral.

Buckaroo rides are available by reservation only, and are only available when a wrangler has free time. Rides generally last 5-10 minutes per child. We do not charge for Buckaroo rides, but tipping a wrangler for their time is encouraged and is always greatly appreciated. Please contact the front office for ride availability.

faq’s.

  • Jeans and boots are ideal, but any pants and closed toe shoes are acceptable.

  • Our trails cover various terrains by going up and down hills, crossing creeks, and riding on flatland and through brushy ravines. Our trails can be rocky and we will likely encounter brush and wildlife, but our horses are well acclimated and very experienced.

  • We will ride under most conditions, less thunder and lightning. Light rain, wind, or cold temperatures wont deter a ride, so please dress accordingly.

  • Certainly. We have saddlebags available for small items.

  • Unfortunately, no. Trail rides are available through reservation only, as we need to know in advance how many horses will be required for the ride. Our horses live their daily lives on over 2,000 acres and are only brought up to the corrals when rides are scheduled.

  • For safety reasons, we do not allow more than one person on a horse at the time. We have buckaroo rides available for little ones.

  • Tips are always very much appreciated. Tips are a great way to let your wrangler know you had a great experience!
